Nineteen years is a long time to build someone else's house.
I'm Tarean Thompson — founder of Geaux Uptown Solutions. This is why I left a Fortune 4 career to build operating systems for founders and practice owners who deserve someone in their corner who's actually been in the room.
I do not regret a day of it.
McKesson taught me operational discipline at a scale most consultants will never touch. Parkland taught me what it means to build systems under genuine pressure — the kind where the stakes are not quarterly earnings, they are patient outcomes. Walgreens taught me how to lead people, real people, through change they did not ask for and pressure they did not deserve.
I learned all of it. I gave all of it. And I gave it well.
But there is a specific kind of tired that Black women in corporate America carry that does not show up on a performance review. It is not burnout exactly. It is something quieter and more corrosive — the slow accumulation of being the most prepared person in the room and still having to prove it. Of building the thing and watching someone else get credited for it. Of calculating, every single day, how much of yourself is safe to bring in versus how much to leave in the car.
I stayed because I was good at it. I stayed because I had a daughter to raise and a mortgage to pay and because leaving felt like a risk I could not afford. I stayed because I kept telling myself that the next role, the next title, the next raise would feel different.
It did not feel different.
What finally moved me was a simple realization: the systems I was building for them — I could build for myself. And for people who actually needed them.
Work-life balance is not something a corporation gives you. It is something you architect. For yourself, on your own terms, with your name on the door. Black women have been told for generations that stability means fitting into someone else's structure. I am here to tell you that the most stable thing I have ever done is decide that my expertise was worth more than a salary and a badge.
Geaux Uptown Solutions is that decision made real.
It is 19 years of Fortune 4 operations discipline, deployed for the founders and practice owners who are building something that matters — and who need someone in their corner who has actually been in the room when systems break and knows exactly how to fix them.
This is my system now. And I built it to last.
What 19 years actually built
If you see yourself here, let's talk.
This is for you if…
- ✓ You own a medspa, healthcare practice, or growing services business
- ✓ Your operations feel like duct tape — and you know it's costing you
- ✓ You're done improvising and ready to operate like the company you're becoming
- ✓ You want a partner who's been in the room, not a junior consultant reading from a deck
It's not for you if…
- ✗ You're looking for the cheapest option, not the right one
- ✗ You want someone to tell you what you already want to hear
- ✗ You're not ready to actually change how things run
